Hello, my name is William. As a long term follower of Jesus, I believe that God asked me to share this key truth of repentance and to help others return to him. I also believe that time is running out! The Kingdom of God is near and the door of opportunity to enter will be closing soon. This is my only motivation in publishing this book, there’s no other strings attached.
I have observed a decline in the importance of true repentance within church practices around the world. Many modern groups have introduced what is known as a Sinners Prayer, which is designed as an efficient group prayer of saying “sorry” to God, recited along with other converts in a church service of some kind. Other branches of the church have reduced repentance to something known as Confession, which allows a sinner to be absolved of their guilt by confidentially confessing to a priest. While both prayer and confession are valid aspects of repentance, these acts alone don’t necessarily mean a person has actually turned away from their sin and turned back to God — the very definition of true repentance.
I know this from first-hand experience — my family began attending a Pentecostal church when I was seven years old. Shortly after that, I experienced a significant personal encounter with the Lord in my room at home and quickly gave my heart to Jesus (via one of those Sinners Prayers I mentioned earlier). I grew up and served in four different churches of the same denomination until the age of 37. During that time I had met and married my lovely wife Hannah, served on the board and become a member of staff in a large church with multiple campuses.
It was the year 2008 when the Lord began opening our eyes and led us out of the Pentecostal church system. What followed could be likened to Israel’s exodus from Egypt. The Lord took us into the wilderness for some 14 years during which time he stripped away everything and everyone we had known. It was a difficult and lonely time but ultimately necessary to deal with all the pride and self-righteousness in my life — the inevitable fruit of prolonged exposure to powerless religion.
In 2022, the Lord began rebuilding me from the ground up with a season of deep repentance, re-baptism and deliverance. I realised I had been unfruitful in the Lord’s “Great Commission” for many years due to the “Great Distraction” of the church system I was caught up in. 1 With the Lord’s help, I am now growing daily in truth and freedom and the power of His Holy Spirit with an ever-increasing love for his word. I thank the Lord for his grace to wake me up in readiness for his return, which I believe is going to be very soon!
“Look, I am coming soon, bringing my reward with me to repay all people according to their deeds. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.”
— Jesus (Revelation chapter 22, verses 12 and 13)
The Great Commission of our Lord Jesus as recorded in The Gospel of Mark, chapter 16, verses 15 to 18: And then he told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone. Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. But anyone who refuses to believe will be condemned. These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demons in my name, and they will speak in new languages. They will be able to handle snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it won’t hurt them. They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed.” (NLT)
